Tonic or floral water? Tips for choosing the right product for your skin

Tonic or floral water

Floral water

The floral waters are more natural and simple than tonics, more structured and more “healing” when there are skin blemishes. For both, it is important to carefully choose the active substances that must be suitable for the type of skin and the desired result

Tonic

The tonic is one of the least used products in the daily beauty routine and it is a shame because it perfectly completes the cleansing of the skin without great pretensions: it does not cost much and is easy to use, just choose the most suitable one.

The same applies to floral waters also known as hydrolates, the result of the natural distillation of flowers and plants that have a good refreshing and purifying effect.

What is the tonic or floral water used for? And how to use them?

Both the tonic and the floral water should always be used, in the evening, after daily facial cleansing, but also in the morning to awaken and revitalize the skin by improving the complexion. Why are they so necessary for the skin?

In the past, more or less alcoholic tonics were very popular because alcohol served as a preservative and in large doses it seemed indispensable for oily skin. Today natural substances are used as preservatives (for example Vitamin E that is Tocopherol ) and we have discovered that the more you attack the skin (or hair) with degreasing substances such as alcohol, the more sebum is produced, practically a dog biting its tail. . Therefore, natural and vegetable substances are also used to obtain an astringent effect for seborrheic skins.

Floral water spray

Another pleasant and beneficial system is to spray them all over the face and wait a few seconds for them to be absorbed, the skin will be fresh and turgid. Just pour them into a spray bottle and for a super refreshing effect, you can put the bottle in the refrigerator and spray it very fresh before an important make-up or to cool down a skin that is too red and irritated.

Remove the last residues of the cleanser completing a more thorough cleansing of the central areas of the face where blackheads usually form

·         They strengthen the immune defenses of the tissue

·         They restore the physiological pH and thus make the skin immediately hydrated and receptive to absorb the serums and creams that conclude the daily beauty rituals.

·         Or application, just a well-soaked cotton pad passed gently or tapped on the face and immediately disappears the sense of stretching that we feel after cleansing.

Very gentle on the skin

Floral water is a bit like the “homeopathic version” of essential oil: it is much less concentrated in active ingredients. It is therefore particularly gentle on the skin. Even the most sensitive skin (including babies’) tolerate it perfectly.

Real hydrosols are 100% pure: in principle, no other ingredient than floral water should be used. They therefore do not contain perfumes, preservatives or alcohol. There is no particular contraindication for the use of hydrosols.

Uses of floral waters in cosmetics

Floral waters are one of the products obtained during steam distillation. In cosmetics, the light fragrance of floral waters makes their use very pleasant. They are ideal for perfecting make-up removal, for cleaning, toning, soothing and refreshing the skin. They can be sprayed directly on the face, soaked in a cotton ball or a compress for local applications. Leave to penetrate for a minute and then dry the face (so as not to dry out the skin, because skin left wet dries up!). It is also possible to apply an oil or a cream on the still wet face.
