When you want to design banners with adobe illustrator, the first thing you have in mind that, what type of banner you are going to design. Secondly, banners shapes and sizes, contents that will include into the banner, colors and other purposes that will need to focus to unlock its full potential. Also, decorative banners are used for various purposes such as trade shows, fundraisers, speaking events, sidewalk advertisements, conferences, office doors, events, presentations and so on. That’s why it needs to be different in design and colors so that it can separate itself in the crowd of other banners and can reach the goal of why it would create.
Here is how you can make an amazing banner on Adobe illustrate using the following easy methods. The design obviously can differ depending on your creativity, in this article, I am just giving you the basic guidelines for the tools that you can use to make a banner.
STEP-1
Open adobe illustrator and fill in the details for dimensions of your artboard. Before starting, you have to be in mind that you are working to create a decorative banner so that you need to be sure about the size of the banner. The design cannot be printed on a larger scale if the design has been made on a smaller scale. In this tutorial I would like to show you how to create a banner which is 12 inches in width and 48 inches in height. This is not permanent and you can customize it if you want.
STEP-2
When you have decided your banners size then it will appear with a clear white shape according to your size. Look at the picture given below, here is the virtual banner size that I decided for the tutorial.
Now, note that banners are not always in the horizontal orientation. They can be in the vertical orientation as well. So, if you choose either of the two, it will be really good for you.
STEP-3
In adobe illustrator, you will find the toolbox on the left side of the screen. Tools are the main elements of all editing software; it gives many options through which you can do particular things in the software. For example, if you want to make a decorative banner with adobe illustrator, there are two different ways to go about this, one is using the pen tool and the other is using a line tool. You will find a tool which is in the third position of the left bar with the pen look icon. And the line tool which is at the first of the left toolbar. For this article, I am using the line tool because creating banners using the pen tool is long process that will require more of your time and attention and also there are chances of error as you are a newbie.
STEP-4
Before I created a line on the artboard, I used the top panels for tools, which showed me more options for the line tool. Here, in front of the heading for stroke, you will find these two options for the stroke. Uniform and basic. You need to click on the downward facing arrow for basic. This will now show you all strokes which you can use instead of the basic type of stroke. When you open this panel, you will not find many options here. For better and more interesting options, you need to click on the tab that looks like a bunch of books, this is the library.
STEP-5
Click on the downward facing arrow on this tab and you will find an extended list of strokes to choose from. For banners, you will have to go to the option that says ‘Decorative’ and from another extended list that appears, select ‘Decorative banners and sales’.
STEP-6
As the selection, you will find a small window that will show you collection for banners and sales on adobe illustrator. You can choose any of these to your design.
STEP-7
Look, I chose the purple banner that appeared on my screen. You can adjust the size of the banner on your artboard by the stroke option.
STEP-8
It’s time to put attractive text in your decorative banner using the text tool. Once you have added the text, an icon for wrap will appear on the top right corner of your screen. Use that to see which kind of wrap looks the best on your text. Wrap basically adds a curve to your text or shape.
STEP-9
Your banner is ready.
