Babies get sick frequently. Only in the first year of life, a baby gets the common cold at least seven times. Runny nose, watery eyes, and sleepless nights make the life of both the baby and the parents a hell. Over-the-counter medicines are not allowed for babies aged below two. In this circumstance, some natural or home remedies can give your baby a solution to get rid of the common cold faster.

Encourage Drinking Enough Fluids

Encourage your baby to drink enough fluids. Offer him breast milk or formula but not juice or soda. Juice or soda contains much sugar that will not be good for your baby. Letting him drink enough liquid will make the opaque runny nose thin, and it will also help reduce nasal congestion.

On the other hand, this method will keep your baby well hydrated which is even more important when he is suffering from the common cold. To be sure of your baby is sucking or sipping well, check his urine. If the urine is dark, he is not sipping that needs more encouragement. Or if the urine is light, everything is okay.

Use a Bulb Syringe

When your child is suffering from nasal congestion or a stuffy nose, manage a bulb syringe as a baby cannot bowl off his nose. To use it, squeeze the bulb and put a quarter to half inches of the syringe into the nostril of your baby. Then, release the bulb to absorb the mucus from the nostril into the bulb through the syringe. After that, leave the mucus into a tissue and through the tissue into the waste bin, and then wash the bulb syringe with soap and water for reuse.

Saline Drops

To soothe the nasal congestion of your baby, look for over-the-counter saline drops or spray. If you cannot manage that, you can make it at home. To make saline drops at home, mix a half teaspoon of table salt into a cup of warm water, and stir well. Laying your baby flat on the bed, take a dropper filled with that saline drops and put 2 to 3 drops of it into the nostril of him. If you notice any mucus coming out, wipe them out with a tissue or using the bulb syringe. However, if your parenthood through surrogacy you might have a proper communication with the surrogacy agency (agencias gestacion subrogada) to get immediate assistances.

Raise the Head of the Bed

Since sleeplessness is one of the symptoms of the common cold in babies, to help your baby sleep, raise the head of the bed up to a few inches using a few books or a roll of a towel under the mattress. This will change the gravity on the body of your baby that will effectively drop the mucus out of his nose resulting to breathe easily that will ultimately improve his sleep. But do not use cushions to raise the head of the bed up because there are many cases of babies being died of suffocated by cushions.

Chicken Soup

Chicken soup is very good for the common cold in babies. The ingredients in tender chicken and vegetables improve a localized physical condition in which part of the body becomes reddened, swollen, hot, and often painful, especially as a reaction to infection or injury that is symptomatic of the common cold in babies. The broth of the chicken soup thins the runny nose and reduces the congestion in the nose. If your baby is not accustomed to solid food, make a smooth creamy substance made of liquidizing or crushing the chicken soup. Or if your baby cannot eat even that, just give him the broth.

Other than the above remedies for the common cold in babies, there are other remedies like running a humidifier, creating a steam room, clearing out the smoke, encouraging rest, sponge bath, healthy food, and a bit of honey.
