As you know IELTS is an entrance English test. You will have to score well in this test to prove that you have a good hold on the language to survive in the USA, Canada or any English based country where you wish to study. The exam analyses your English speaking, reading, listening and writing skills. That way you will be considered a potential candidate for their university.

Tips for IELTS speaking

  1. Focus on your vocabulary: It is believed that a higher vocabulary helps you use the words in the appropriate situation. It will help you make strong meaningful sentences. Hence, focus on learning new words that are used frequently. When you practice reading mark all the words you are not familiar with. Later refer them using a dictionary and then practice it and start using it regularly. That way you will get to understand the usage even better. 

You need to practice the usage of the language regularly. Start to use English even in basic conversations. Keep your vocabulary and grammar to the point. A language can be only polished or perfectly learned when you spend a lot of time experimenting, making mistakes and correcting them. That way you remember better. That is why it is important to practice and making it a habit to talk in English when it comes to IELTS.

  1. Mock-ups: Your mock exams are as important as your final ones. Do not miss them for any reason and prepare as if it was your main exam. This will help you adapt to the exam atmosphere and hence reduces tension on the day of the exam. There are plenty of IELTS classes in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi and other such places who train you for the exam and at the end also give you mock exams. Even if there are no classes available in your city, you can take up online courses. They also come with Mock-ups. 
  2. Speak it out: You will have to get out of your bubble and start communicating in English for real. Communicating helps you brainstorm and come up with sentences as you are already conscious about what you might say and how you might sound. This is the best part of learning a new language. When you will be able to talk properly you start to feel good about it and feel more confident. That way you can feel that all your efforts paid well. 
  3. Focus on the pronunciation: The first and foremost thing to start with the IELTS exam is your pronunciation. It has to grow along with your learning process. Focus on improving that and make sure it is quite understandable. The examiner should be able to follow what you are trying to say and that way you can drive them towards your answers. Hence, pronunciation is crucial. Keep talking to people around you. There are also communities both online and offline where you find people with different knowledge level. Talking to them will make you feel confident and also motivate you to learn the language in a better way. 
  4. Be fluent: After all the practice you have done. You are ready to be fluent in your language. You should be open to talking fluently. All the sentences you form need not be very complicated or constructive. Speaking is simpler and it includes easier words compared to writing. You can know a little English but still, be able to form sentences for basic conversations. Hence, while speaking doesn’t give a lot of breaks and don’t waste time humming. Just say what you have to say in informative sentences. 
  5. Be confident: Being confident is the key to crack most of the exams with ease. You need to stay calm and enjoy your English. Talk like you know the language better than anybody else. You can be simply smiling and answer all the questions with ease when you believe in your efforts. 
  6. Clarify your doubts: Generally while trying to listen and answer at the same time. It might get a little above the head. In such times be alert and clarify your doubts if you don’t follow. There is no need of feeling that they might judge you for that. After understanding the question, take your time to think well and answer it. That way you won’t be rushing and you will also be able to answer appropriately for what is asked.
